ABOUT ME
I am part of a family of makers; a jeweller, artist, knife maker, glass blower, florist and a potter. The potter is my aunty, who has been making beautiful pots for the past 5 decades. Over this time, she has developed her own unique processes and techniques which she has very kindly been passing on. Throughout my life, annual visits to her cottage tucked away up a mountain completely off grid, provided me with the chance to ‘have a go’ on her wheel and fall in love with clay. It wasn’t until being made redundant whilst on maternity leave a few years ago that I decided I would become a potter. Now my youngest child has started pre-school I have a couple of days a week to spend at the wheel and start the journey following in my aunties truly inspirational footsteps.
I hand throw each item in my tiny pottery studio on the edge of Dartmoor. I use buff/white stoneware clay and glazes that I mix myself from raw materials, any designs are then hand painted on. Designs are inspired by the beautiful area we are lucky enough to be surrounded by, from the rugged moors to the picturesque coastline. Unlike the majority of ceramics which are fired twice, I only fire once, using the techniques perfected by my aunt. I fire in an electric kiln using power provided by solar panels to reduce the environmental impact.
